MG Motor has opened its first-ever MG Select showroom in Thane, Maharashtra, marking the beginning of a new retail strategy focused exclusively on the company’s premium electric vehicle offerings. The launch introduces the MG premium retail format, which will operate separately from regular MG dealerships across India.
The company confirmed that MG Select showrooms will not carry regular MG products such as the Hector or Astor. Instead, the focus will be on high-end electric models like the MG Cyberster electric car and the MG M9 electric MPV, both of which are expected to enter the Indian market soon.
MG Select Thane showroom opens ahead of official launches
The MG Select Thane showroom is the first of 14 exclusive outlets MG plans to establish by September 2025 across India. It serves as a preview platform for the company’s upcoming flagship EVs, even though both models are not yet officially on sale.
The MG M9 launch date and MG M9 price in India remain unconfirmed. However, the MPV has already undergone test drives and early media reviews. The M9 will cater to the premium people mover segment and is expected to compete with electric MPVs from global manufacturers.
Similarly, the MG Cyberster India launch has not yet been officially scheduled, but the vehicle has already made its public debut at an auto expo in March 2024. The MG Cyberster specs revealed so far include a dual-motor setup, sporty design, and a high-capacity battery aimed at offering long range and powerful performance.
Premium-only strategy to showcase MG premium cars in India
Through this new retail model, MG Motor aims to build a stronger foothold in the premium EV space by positioning the MG Cyberster electric car and MG M9 electric MPV as flagbearers of the next generation of MG premium cars in India. MG Select showrooms will provide a distinct, upmarket experience for buyers, similar to how Maruti Suzuki distinguishes between Nexa and Arena.
